Modem/Broadband Sharing software
This is a perenial difficulty for many JOTI/JOTA sites.
I recommend using a LINUX router distribution such as
FREESCO
as the front end to your JOTI network; this avoids many of the security
issues found with Windows based internet sharing products.
To make things easier, we'll make a disk image available from
this site for you to download for your 2005 JOTI Base.

IRC CHANNELS
For a details on the JOTI channels check out http://www.scoutlink.net/
Desktops?
We have had a very successful trial of the 'live CD' LINUX desktop
KNOPPIX
for the 2004 Eltham JOTI Base. As the operating system is running from a CD
there is no issue with the users corrupting the base installation.
We will try to make a custom 'JOTI' version available for JOTI 2005.

IRC Bouncers?
If you wish to have a common choke point for IRC connections from your network,
you can use an IRC bouncer (BNC). A well setup bouncer can protect clients in
a similar manner to a web-proxy server.
ProBNC : irc bouncer for windows
psyBNC : irc bouncer for *NIX
IRC Servers?
So you want 'ops' do you so that you can do the +o and get a fancy @ hat ...
You will need to get yourself some practice *off* the servers!
ScoutLink runs Hybrid6/SLink6.12.6.1-3000, this is a modified Hybrid6 ircd
Have a look at http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/ircd/,
if it doesn't make sense you probaly need to do more homework before you can
even think about +o
From the ScoutLink motd :
Please do not send email requesting
o:lines. We are NOT looking for IRC Operators These types of
requests will not receive any answer, affirmative or negative.
