[ JOTI - JOTA 2006 ]

Eltham JOTI JOTA Base

We went and found the Geocache Scoutin’ about to get out JOTA/JOTI badges. Rather than following pathways, our navigators this year chose to go a more direct route. This resulted in a bit of bushwalking (bushbashing) along the Diamond Creek. This also added about another 30minutes+ to the length of the activity.

A change for this year was that as well as carrying mobile UHF radios, we had a base station configured so we could talk to base the whole time we wer out on the walk. As we managed to be away longer than expected this was very handy.

Our site was on IRC for a lot longer than previous years, and we played games such as 'I spy' using the chat rooms. Lots of longer conversations took place rather than the - hi - asl - bye - style chats.

There was a lot more use of the internet this year with Cubs also meeting up using Club Penguin and Neo Pets.

Kaa contacted us and we had a MSN video hookup to watch the sun set in Xiamen (China).

We also played games with the raidos including Communications LEGO [pdf]

We used GOOGLE EARTH to find where we were located and where one of our other leader was in China. ELTHAM-JOTI-BASE.kmz and Panda2(Xiamen).kmz
We also used the Google Earth map with JOTA-JOTI stations (from www.jotajoti.org)
