JOTI/JOTA 2002

For this year we had a LAN with 12 computers that allowed our 11 cubs, 1 guide and 6 leaders (+1 leader in Bankok!) to participate in all sorts of activity: WWW, IRC, WebCam, Digital photo's, radio, GPS, and more!

Our 2002 Program (well, it sort of followed this). Details and notes for JOTA 2002.

JOTI:
Computers everywhere .... we had installed more network outlets for this year, so everything ran via the network gear in the downstair racks ... no hubs or switches kicking around the floor :)) We had 11 cubs and 8 chat machines, which worked pretty well. The web cam went pretty well, but was played with frequently so some of the shots were *interesting* rather than informative.

We used the little TV to play VCD's of the AJ04 promo, and tutorial movies about the internet and computers .... this was on light rotation.

JOTI 2002

JOTA:
Cubs used a small handheld radio (Yaesu) and computer based radio (WinRadio) to access JOTA - We also constructed an aerial mast to hold our radio antennas using timber spars and lashings, although this *was not* one of our better efforts.

Good local chats with VK3SBS and VK3SDJ and a thanks to the wonders of IRLP a hookup with KC8MLD in Michegon USA.

Of course we can built it!
... can't we?

A golden rule for your JOTI/JOTA site, always have maps, atlases, world globes available for the Cubs and Scouts, they love finding out exactly where they are talking to. These were well used once again ... We also added a series of clocks showing local time (red) and three other time zones (London UMT, Bangkok UMT+7, New York UMT-5)

We used mini post-it-notes to stick onto the maps to indicate contacts;

  • yellow = cubs
  • green = scouts
  • blue = guides
  • red = leaders + venturers + rovers.
