JOTI 2001 We had a great JOTI/JOTA this year with our cubs chatting for many hours ... and the leaders drinking many litres of coffee :)) For 2001 we had a LAN with 15 computers that allowed our 5 cubs, and 3 leaders to participate in all sorts of internet activity (WWW, IRC, WebCam, Digital photo's). We set up an astronomy area where we investigated the moon, the stars and satellites.
Our 2001 Program (well, it sort of follwed this). Details and notes for JOTA 2001. Cubs used a computer based radio (WinRadio) to access JOTA - We also constructed an aerial mast to hold our radio antennas using timber spars and lashings. No cubs managed to burn their fingers when soldering together our electronic kits (a first time for everything I guess). Even some of the PC's got dressed up for the occasion ... Not all of our outlets were done before hand, so we had a large "RAT" make a few more holes for us. Some of these were actually cleaned up in time. To connect to the internet we used FreeSCO routers (LINUX based servers). Computers everywhere .... that's the way it felt at times. This allowed us to have a greater than 1:1 ratio between cubs and computers, if you ever run a JOTI site, this is a good thing. A golden rule for your JOTI/JOTA site, always have maps, atlases, world globes available for the Cubs and Scouts, they love finding out exactly where they are talking to. This year we didn't use a pin-board, we used mini post-it-notes to stick onto the maps.
