Cubs: Billy Carts Billy Box Derby
20,000 Leagues under the sea theme

Avast, all ye scurvy Cubs! No landlubbers to be found at th' helm at this years event - only a pack of old seadogs. Batten th' hatches and brace th' mainsail, prepare for some storm runnin' as this years event goes Nautical. It looks like it'll be one helluva derby! Arrrh!!

The Event

Theme: 20,000 Leagues under the sea

Venue: Clifford Park; MEL 24 J6 [Google Maps] using oval area and Rowallan hut

Cost: $5- per Cub
$2- per Adult/Spectator

Weather: Rain hail or shine

The format

Rather than using "Billy Carts" this year we will use a "Billy Box". The box will be a "Henley-on-Todd" regatta craft made from cardboard, plastic, string, .... you get the picture ;) These are a 'bottomless' boat raced in a dry river bed.

Central Australia's annual Henley on Todd is a boat race with a difference. It's held on the dry sands of the Todd River that runs through the centre of Alice Springs. Custom designed bottomless boats allow contestants to run, scramble and stumble their way through a variety of traditionally inspired but completely novel events.
[George Negus Tonight, ABC]

For the Cub version: all Craft must have an 'under the sea' theme and encircle the crew.
(Multiple small craft that encircle the crew will be ok for this event.)
Award for the best entry.

Please note that all carts will be scrutineered after judging to ensure that they are safe for competition.
