Every overseas participant, except those from New Zealand, will require either an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) or a visa to enter Australia. Participants from many countries will be able to obtain an on-line ETA. To find out which countries are eligible and for information about obtaining an ETA, visit the website http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ . Participants from some countries may require a visa. If you need a visa (rather than an ETA), the form you require is Form 456. A copy of this form and additional information, including access to the addresses of relevant embassies, can be obtained from the following website: http://www.immi.gov.au/faq/visiting/visiting02.htm . When you register for PME29 your name will be passed on to the Australian Immigration Department so that when you apply for a visa or ETA, your application will be processed promptly. If you cannot access the website or cannot determine whether it is a visa or an ETA that you need, we advise you to contact the Australian Embassy or diplomatic representative in your country.
The organisers cannot be held responsible for any losses, damages or injuries. Travel insurance is important. In case of medical emergency the Royal Women's Hospital, the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Dental Hospital are all very close to the University.
Although July is winter in Australia, it is the ideal time to travel to the tropical North of Australia and to the Red Centre. With flights from Singapore to Darwin, for example, participants may like to consider entering Australia at Darwin then joining a coach tour of Kakadu National Park, or the Kimberley and Broome. Alternatively after arriving at Darwin participants may travel by the new railway to Alice Springs in Central Australia. Alice Springs is, of course, linked by air to the major cities in Australia, including Melbourne and Darwin. Some possible tours will be found on the websites below. Further information will be available in the Second Announcement.
